“You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.” ~Desmond Tutu~

I am very grateful for the gift of my family that God has given to me. My husband and I have been married for three years and parents for two years. There are many joys in parenting and also many challenges. Coming from a Christian background, it is important to us to instill the basic ideas of love, kindness and treating others the way you want to be treated.
We are fortunate to have a very verbal two year old. He is able to express how he feels with words, but we also have to lovely tantrums that your typical two year likes to throw. Our newest addition to the family is four months old. He is cooing at us all of the time so we think he will also be a great talker.
Since my husband is in the military, we our not able to have what some people think of as a “typical” dinner together on a daily basis. Usually, I eat dinner with the boys and then have a small snack with my husband when he gets home. When he is around on the weekends, we tend to prepare meals together and grill. The kids are still a bit young to help out with cooking, but I do have my two year old help when I bake and he really enjoys helping.
Education is a big deal in our family. Before becoming a stay at home mom, I taught for eight years. It is important to me to now give my own children the basic knowledge they will need to be prepared for their own schooling. My husband and I are already talking about schools in our area that we would or would not want to send the boys to. This will be a big decision for us because we want them to have all of the opportunities needed to help best prepare them for the future.
One of the best tips that work for our family is having a routine. Without the routine, I would go crazy. The bedtime routine is one that I try my best to stick to because it allows me to have some downtime in the evening.
Our most recent family vacation was to Berlin, Germany last December. We had a great time visiting my sister and her family!
